Biography:
Primarily a guitarist, I will play whatever happens to be on hand.
I began writing my own material in the early 90s, before finally entering a Winnipeg warehouse studio in the summer of 1997 to record "Waiting For A Train". Recording & post-producting this 9 track EP in 5 hours, most of the tracks from that recording are largely forgetable, with the possible exception of "Coyote". Then I met Kate.
Kate Simms, took a rag-tag collection of half-baked acoustic ramblings and helped shape the 1999 release "Cariboo Bones" into something modestly grand. We recorded this 12 track CD (again in a single day) in her Victoria studio in August 1999.
Having left Canada to teach in South Korea, I returned to Victoria & Kate to record "Fallen From the Sun" in July of 2001. Opting to return to Korea, songwriting took a secondary seat to teaching.
Approaching 10 years since my last release I have slowly accumulated a body of work that is mostly incomplete bits and parts, separated by an occasional fully realized tune. Finding appropriate chunks of time has become the deciding factor, more so now that I'm teaching full-time,... then again, it is often during teaching that I'm dumbstruck with a lingering lyric or melody line.
I have had the working title "Building Babel" since early 2003, however in organizing my file directory and finding over 50 different track titles, I have recently taken to piling tunes in an album folder titled "Killjoy's Blue Closet".
If you take the time to listen to a few of these tracks, you quickly realize that I'm not a sound engineer by any stretch. Though you can hear mulitple overdubs in most of these posted tracks, many of these tunes have been constructed in a few hours and the mix levels need more attention. However, that takes more time and knowledge than I can currently afford, so if you've got headphones,... stick em' on and have a listen.
